Maulidi is the Swahili (East African coast) traditional celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammed. Muslims as far away as the Comoros and Zanzibar meet in Lamu, Kenya for the annual festival. Lamu Old Town is one of the oldest and best preserved Swahili settlements along African’s east coast, which UNESCO designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
